Hemeiusi Dendrological Park and the Red Castle
Category: Park Location: Hemeiusi, Bacau CountyLocated in the village of Lilieci, Hemeiusi commune, approximately 8 km from Bacau, on the left side of the Bacau-Piatra Neamt national road, it is the second most important dendrological park in Romania. The original forest was owned by the Costache Pascanu family, a former treasurer of Moldova, and Grigore Cantacuzino until 1856. It became a dendrological park in 1880 when the new owner, Lucia-Schonburg-Waldenburg, brought a German specialist to introduce new indigenous and exotic species. Nationalized in 1945, the park became a research base after 1955, focusing on acclimating exotic species of forestry interest. It contains over 1,300 species of trees and shrubs, some with impressive heights and diameters: white poplar (over 40 m high and 3 m in diameter), black poplar (33 m high and 2 m in diameter), pedunculate oak (30.5 m high), cherry (over 30 m high), raspberry (10 m high and 20 cm in diameter), common ash, pine, several species of fir and spruce, cypress, horse chestnut, Oregon cedar, etc. The 178 species of conifers come from North America, Asia, and Europe. The park also has a unique collection of roses, with 600 species and varieties. The park follows an English landscape style, with curved paths and alternating lawns and arboretum areas. The composition, shape, dimensions, and colors of the species give the park its uniqueness. In the middle of the park stands the Red Mansion or Castle, built between 1864 and 1866. Frames for the movie “Dumbrava minunata,” directed by Gheorghe Naghi based on the novel of the same name by Mihail Sadoveanu, were filmed here.
Slanic-Moldova Resort
Slanic Moldova is a well-known spa town located on the eastern slope of the Eastern Carpathians (in the Nemira massif) at an altitude of 530 meters, on the Slanic stream valley. The town is situated in a depression covered with deciduous and coniferous forests. Slanic-Moldova, a town in eastern Romania (Bacau County), is located on the Slanic River (a tributary of the Trotus River), at the foot of the Nemira Mountains (Eastern Carpathians), in a valley surrounded by beech and fir forests, 84 km southwest of Bacau City (the capital of Bacau County). It is a year-round resort with a temperate intra-mountain depression climate, clean air free of dust and particles that can cause allergies, and rich in resinous aerosols and negative ions. The average annual temperature is 7.4°C. The spa resort has a unique and specific balneological wealth, which is not only rare in the country but also in Europe. Within a relatively small area, there are numerous springs with varied composition, concentration, chemical complexity, and therapeutic effects. Slanic Moldova has significant deposits of mineral waters, which have been researched and exploited since the early 19th century. Studies conducted in 1999 to reevaluate the reserves of mineral water and mofetic carbon dioxide confirmed the presence of two distinct hydro-mineral deposits from a hydrogeological, hydraulic, physico-chemical, and balneomedical perspective: chlorinated and bicarbonate mineral waters. Balneo-therapeutic tourism: The resort’s balneological potential is a defining criterion and the main element in selecting the resort, highlighted by the nature and flow rate or capacity of its resources. The existence of natural therapeutic factors leads to the organization of three types of medical care: preventive, curative, and functional recovery. Slanic Moldova’s potential lies in the quality of its waters, their high therapeutic value, and their appropriate flow rates, which make the resort suitable for the treatment of digestive disorders, accessory gland diseases, respiratory system diseases, nutritional and metabolic disorders.
