Aeroportul Bacau, prezentare generala

Bacau airport has been opened for public transportation of passengers and cargo since the 1st of April 1946. Having a runaway of 2500 m in length and 80 m in width and an area of over 200 ha, Bacau is the largest airport in the north-eastern Romania.

The existing air-station was officially opened in 1971. In 2005, the terminal's capacity to handle passengers will double through expansion and modernisation works.

Because of the increased internal and international air traffic, on the 30th of December 1975, Bacau Airport was declared through presidential decree an international airport. In 2002, through Government Decision, this status was acknowledged again.

The geographical positioning, in the center of Moldova at approximately draw distances from the main cities in the neighbourhood - Galati, Brasov, Suceava, Iasi, Piatra Neamt, Vaslui, Focsani -, and the facile access to Bucharest-Suceava railway and national road E85 (both at less than 400 m away from the air-station), are very important for future development.

Nowadays, Bacau Airport handles over 120.000 passengers per year. The number of passengers grows from year to year. The number of airlines which operate on Bacau Airport grew from a single one (Carpatair) in 2002, to three (Tarom, Carpatair, Clubair) today.

Bacau Airport has been placed in the administration of the Local Council of Bacau aiming for the development of the adjacent region's infrastructure and for the stirring of the entire social and economic life of this region.
